MN HOSA Internship Program Explanation and Process

Overview

The MN HOSA Internship Program gives members the opportunity to become involved at the state level through hands-on leadership experiences. Interns work directly with state officers, contribute to statewide projects, assist with conferences, and gain valuable experience in leadership, event planning, communication, and professional development.

The program is designed to give members meaningful responsibilities while preparing them for potential future leadership opportunities within MN HOSA.

How the Program Works

Flexibility to Apply: Students may apply to one, several, or all internship groups, but each selected student will only be assigned to one group.
Selective Process: Internship positions are limited, and not all applicants will be selected. We encourage thoughtful applications that reflect each student’s own experiences, skills, and interests.
Group Assignments: Applicants can choose from five internships: Public Relations, HOSA Connect, HOSA Hype, HOSA Hosts, and HOSA HQ. Each internship has a different focus and is led by a respective State Officer or MN HOSA staff member.
Hands-On Experience: Interns are expected to actively contribute to their assigned group’s projects and statewide initiatives throughout the internship term.

Program Commitment

Being selected as a State Intern is a seven-month commitment, beginning in December 2026 and continuing through June 25, 2027.

All interns are expected to attend the following mandatory events:

Mid-Winter Academy: January 5–13, 2027 (assigned regional date).
State Leadership Conference (SLC): March 8–10, 2027 (all three days required).
HOSA Day at the Capitol: March/April 2027 (exact date TBD).
HOSA Day at the Zoo: April 14, 2027, Minnesota Zoo, Apple Valley, MN.
Intern meetings and additional state-level responsibilities as scheduled.

Interns must also:

Actively participate in their assigned internship group and complete all required projects and responsibilities.
Maintain consistent communication with MN HOSA leadership and respond to messages within 24 hours.
Have their own functioning personal cell phone with 24/7 access.
Arrange reliable transportation to required statewide events.
Be prepared to attend overnight conferences without a parent or guardian, including staying in MN HOSA-assigned rooms with other students of the same gender, subject to approved accommodations.
Maintain satisfactory academic standing and remain active in their local HOSA chapter.
Continue fulfilling their internship responsibilities after SLC, regardless of whether they apply for or are elected to a state officer position.

The internship concludes in conjunction with the International Leadership Conference (ILC) on June 25, 2027. Attendance at ILC is not automatically required unless separately assigned.

Failure to fulfill internship responsibilities may result in disciplinary action under MN HOSA’s three-strike accountability system, including removal from the program.

Any intern who receives a strike will lose eligibility for an automatic state officer interview. Poor performance may also negatively affect future state officer consideration.

How to Apply

Submit Your Application: Applications open November 2 and close November 14, 2026, at 11:59 PM. Applicants may apply to multiple internship groups but can only be selected for one. Applications must reflect the student’s own experiences and ideas. AI-generated or AI-revised responses are not permitted.
Interview Process: Interviews will be offered on a rolling basis and held November 16–19, 2026. Applicants may be invited to multiple interviews if more than one group lead is interested in their application.
Selection and Notification: Accepted interns are scheduled to be notified on November 19, 2026. Not all applicants will be accepted, as positions are limited.
Required Forms: Selected interns and their parents/guardians must review and sign all required 2026–2027 State Intern Commitment Forms.
Mandatory Orientation: If selected, you must attend one of the following orientation calls:
- Friday, November 20, 2026 | 8:00–9:00 PM
- Sunday, November 22, 2026 | 4:30–5:30 PM
Attendance at one of these calls is required. Interns will review program expectations, responsibilities, and next steps before beginning their internship.

The State Internship Program is more than an opportunity to build your resume or prepare for state office. It is a chance to contribute to something larger than your own chapter, take on real responsibilities, and help shape the experiences of HOSA members across Minnesota.

HOSA Hype Internship

HOSA Hype – Led by Sahasra Thodupunoori, Activities Coordinator

Mission: Bring energy and excitement to MN HOSA events by leading chants, icebreakers, and crowd-engaging activities. Hype interns will help plan engaging workshops, sell merchandise, and keep participants energized throughout conferences.
Ideal For: Extroverts who love to motivate people and bring the vibes!

Key Events: Required attendance at Mid-Winter and SLC.
Responsibilities: Lead chants and games, help plan workshops, assist with merchandise sales, select decorations for events, and keep participants engaged and excited at all times.

HOSA Connect Internship

HOSA Connect – Led by Arianna Gocool, VP of Growth

Mission: Strengthen the MN HOSA network through alumni outreach and chapter development. This team will assist with judge recruitment, foster alumni relationships, and initiate new HOSA chapters across Minnesota.
Ideal For: Individuals interested in outreach, community building, and chapter expansion.

Key Events: Attend major conferences to connect with alumni and potential judges.
Responsibilities: Develop an outreach strategy, create a contact list for schools, and recruit alumni for volunteer roles at events.

HOSA Hosts Internship

HOSA Hosts – Led by Emma Joseph, VP of Engagement

Mission: Strengthen member engagement across Minnesota by creating a welcoming environment at conferences and providing interns with real leadership experience. Hosts will support event logistics, assist judges and competitors, and make sure every participant feels included—especially first-time attendees.

Ideal For: Friendly, outgoing members who enjoy helping others, guiding new chapters, and supporting behind-the-scenes operations.

Key Events: Required attendance at Mid-Winter and SLC
Responsibilities:
- Greet and guide competitors, judges, and guests
- Adopt and support new or first-time chapters at conferences
- Announce reminders and updates (workshops, merch table, meals, etc.)
- Assist with event setup and teardown (dances, expos, activity room)
- Help enforce professionalism and dress code standards
- Facilitate engagement (interviews, testimonials, speaker introductions)

Public Relations Internship

HOSA Public Relations Internship — Led by Bryan Phan, Public Relations Officer

Mission: Manage MN HOSA’s social media presence and public relations. This group will create engaging content using Canva, collect and analyze conference data, and help brainstorm promotional kits to attract more members.
Ideal For: Creative individuals with a knack for social media, design, and analytics.

Key Events: Required attendance at Mid-Winter and SLC.
Responsibilities: Develop Canva posts, manage social media campaigns, analyze engagement data, and create promotional kits.
Note: Only 3-4 students will be selected for this role.

HOSA HQ Internship

HOSA HQ Internship — Led by Chau-Mi Phan, Competition Systems Manager, and Malia Hasselius, Judge and Student Experience Manager

Mission: Create the best competition experience for competitors by supporting CE preparation content, judge recruitment, volunteer training, and on-site problem solving. HOSA HQ interns will have the unique chance to interact up close and personal with a variety of professionals.

Ideal For: Detail-oriented members who are organized, dependable, and interested in increasing their involvement in competition and behind-the-scenes operations.

Key Events: Mid-Winter and SLC (required attendance).

Responsibilities:

Assist with recruiting judges and confirming event qualifications
Help check in and train judges for conferences
Support the creation of interactive judge orientations and resources
Create unique competitive event resources for students
Draft one-page event summaries for both judges and competitors
Confirm skill selections and supply lists with professionals and past judges
Engage in on-site problem solving
Assist with additional competitive events operations as needed
