MN HOSA Internship Program Explanation and Process

Overview:
The MN HOSA Internship Program offers members a chance to get involved at the state level through unique, hands-on experiences. Interns will work closely with state officers, contribute to special projects, and gain insight into leadership and event planning. These roles are designed to help participants explore potential future leadership within MN HOSA, with a focus on developing practical skills and making a tangible impact.

How the Program Works

Flexibility to Apply: Applicants can apply for one, several, or all intern groups, but they will only be accepted into one group. This ensures they are fully dedicated to their selected group’s activities and responsibilities.
Selective Process: Not everyone will be accepted, as spaces are limited to maintain a focused and impactful experience. We encourage thoughtful, quality applications.
Group Assignments: Each group offers unique experiences, so applicants should carefully consider which aligns best with their interests, skills, and availability. Accepted applicants will have a meaningful, hands-on role in shaping MN HOSA events and initiatives.

Program Commitment

Being selected as an intern is a seven month long commitment.

Interns are expected to actively contribute from December 2025 through the conclusion of the International Leadership Conference (ILC) on June 20th, 2026.
If you apply for state officer and are not elected, you will still be required to fulfill your intern responsibilities.
Failure to meet these expectations means you will not be eligible to:
- Attend capitol visits
- Participate in workshops or HOSA field trips
- Be recognized in our alumni program

This ensures that every intern selected is fully invested in making MN HOSA stronger.

How to Apply

Submit Your Application: Applications open on October 31st at the Fall Leadership Conference (FLC) and close on November 16th. You can apply for as many groups as you like, but you will only be accepted into one group if selected.
Interview Process: Selected applicants will be invited to interviews between November 17th-22nd. If multiple group leads are interested in you it is possible that you may have multiple interviews. However, please note that you may only be selected for 1 internship.
Selection and Notification: After reviewing applications and interviews, we will announce the accepted interns on November 23rd. Not all applicants will be accepted, as space in each group is limited.
Program Kickoff: The first intern meeting will take place in early December, where interns will meet their group lead and receive an overview of their tasks and expectations.

HOSA Hype Internship

HOSA Hype – Led by Shawn Nierenhausen, Activities Coordinator

Mission: Bring energy and excitement to MN HOSA events by leading chants, icebreakers, and crowd-engaging activities. Hype interns will help plan engaging workshops, sell merchandise, and keep participants energized throughout conferences.
Ideal For: Extroverts who love to motivate people and bring the vibes!

Key Events: Required attendance at Mid-Winter and SLC.
Responsibilities: Lead chants and games, help plan workshops, assist with merchandise sales, select decorations for events, and keep participants engaged and excited at all times.

HOSA Connect Internship

HOSA Connect – Led by Claire Nelson, VP of Growth, and Linnea Pederson, VP of Outreach

Mission: Strengthen the MN HOSA network through alumni outreach and chapter development. This team will assist with judge recruitment, foster alumni relationships, and initiate new HOSA chapters across Minnesota.
Ideal For: Individuals interested in outreach, community building, and chapter expansion.

Key Events: Attend major conferences to connect with alumni and potential judges.
Responsibilities: Develop an outreach strategy, create a contact list for schools, and recruit alumni for volunteer roles at events.

HOSA Hosts Internship

HOSA Hosts – Led by Zainab Al-Nidawi, VP of Engagement

Mission: Strengthen member engagement across Minnesota by creating a welcoming environment at conferences and providing interns with real leadership experience. Hosts will support event logistics, assist judges and competitors, and make sure every participant feels included—especially first-time attendees.

Ideal For: Friendly, outgoing members who enjoy helping others, guiding new chapters, and supporting behind-the-scenes operations.

Key Events: Required attendance at Mid-Winter and SLC
Responsibilities:
- Greet and guide competitors, judges, and guests
- Adopt and support new or first-time chapters at conferences
- Announce reminders and updates (workshops, merch table, meals, etc.)
- Assist with event setup and teardown (dances, expos, activity room)
- Help enforce professionalism and dress code standards
- Facilitate engagement (interviews, testimonials, speaker introductions)

Public Relations Internship

HOSA Public Relations Internship — Led by Rishika Anasuri, Public Relations Officer

Mission: Manage MN HOSA’s social media presence and public relations. This group will create engaging content using Canva, collect and analyze conference data, and help brainstorm promotional kits to attract more members.
Ideal For: Creative individuals with a knack for social media, design, and analytics.

Key Events: Required attendance at Mid-Winter and SLC.
Responsibilities: Develop Canva posts, manage social media campaigns, analyze engagement data, and create promotional kits.
Note: Only 3-4 students will be selected for this role.

Collegiate Internship

HOSA Collegiate Internship — Led by Chau-Mi Phan, Skills CE Coordinator, and Malia Hasselius, Judge Coordinator

Mission: Ensure smooth, fair, and professional competition experiences at MN HOSA events by supporting judge recruitment, orientation, and event logistics. Justice interns will play a key role in preparing judges, organizing supplies, and keeping competitions running seamlessly.

Ideal For: Detail-oriented members who are organized, dependable, and interested in the behind-the-scenes operations of competitive events.

Key Events: Mid-Winter and SLC (required attendance).

Responsibilities:

Assist with recruiting judges and confirming event qualifications
Help check in and train judges at conferences
Support the creation of interactive judge orientations and guideline clarifications
Draft one-page event summaries for both judges and competitors
Confirm skill selections and supply lists with professionals and past judges
Check CE bags, place them, and set up event supplies
Assist with additional competitive events operations as needed
