Summary:
Emma is a junior at Maple Grove Senior High School and serves as the president of her HOSA chapter. After her school’s activity fair was canceled and membership was uncertain at the start of the year, she focused on recruitment through classroom presentations, school outreach, and personal connections, growing the chapter to about 70 members. She restructured chapter meetings to improve organization by distinguishing between general and mandatory meetings, increasing meeting frequency before conferences, and creating a public HOSA calendar to improve planning. Emma also launched a peer mentorship platform connecting newer competitors with experienced members and introduced regular feedback check-ins to strengthen engagement. Through these efforts and structured preparation sessions, Maple Grove increased its Top 5 Mid-Winter placements from 17 to 28.
Emma has competed in Healthcare Issues Exam, Extemporaneous Writing, Dental Science, and Occupational Therapy. Her placements include International Finalist (Top 16) in Healthcare Issues at the International Leadership Conference, 2nd place in Extemporaneous Writing at the State Leadership Conference, 4th place in Dental Science at SLC, and 1st place in Occupational Therapy, Dental Science, and Extemporaneous Writing at Mid-Winter.
