Chapter Points and Awards

Chapter Points are Minnesota HOSA’s way of recognizing and rewarding chapters for being active throughout the year. Chapters earn points by participating in conferences and events, attending trainings, completing service projects and fundraisers, engaging on social media, attending Chapter Connects, completing chapter visits, and taking part in other Minnesota HOSA initiatives. Points are tracked throughout the year and added together to create each chapter’s overall total. These totals are used to recognize chapter engagement, encourage participation, and help determine several Minnesota HOSA awards.

Chapter Leadership & Engagement

• Active Chapter Instagram: 20 points
• Local Officer Contacts: 20 points
  • Incomplete contact information: 10 points
• Local Officer Training: 20 points
• Social Media Training: 10 points
• Fundraiser: 20 points per fundraiser
• Service Project: 20 points per project
• Chapter Connect Attendance: 20 points per Chapter Connect attended

Conference & Event Attendance

• International Leadership Conference: 50 points
• Fall Leadership Conference: 30 points
• MRC Attendance: 50 points
• Mid-Winter Attendance: 30 points
• State Leadership Conference: 30 points
• Day at the Zoo: 30 points

Chapter Drop-In / Chapter Visit

• Graded Chapter Visit points are based on the chapter’s overall visit score:
  • 90% or above: 40 points
  • 80–89.9%: 30 points
  • 70–79.9%: 20 points
  • 60–69.9%: 10 points
  • Below 60%: 0 points and a follow-up is required to improve the chapter’s score

Public Relations Points

Chapters may also earn additional points through PR Group Chat activities and initiatives throughout the year. These points are added to the chapter’s overall total.

Bonuses & Deductions

Minnesota HOSA may award bonus points for exceptional participation, special initiatives, or additional opportunities announced during the year. Points may also be deducted when appropriate. Any deduction will include a documented reason so chapters can understand how their total was calculated.

Chapter Points are used throughout the year to recognize chapters that consistently participate, engage, serve, and represent Minnesota HOSA. At the end of the year, point totals help determine several chapter and individual awards.

• Chapter of the Year: Awarded to the chapter with the highest overall Chapter Points total.
• Rookie Chapter of the Year: Awarded to the eligible new chapter with the highest overall Chapter Points total.
• Region of the Year: Awarded to the region whose chapters earn the highest combined Chapter Points total.
• Community Service Award: Awarded to the chapter that earns the most points through community service projects and service-related activities.
• HOSA Hype Award: Awarded to the chapter that earns the most points through HOSA Hype activities and engagement.
• Public Relations Award: Awarded based on points earned through PR initiatives, social media activity, promotional engagement, and participation in social media training.
• Advisor of the Year: Chapter Points are considered alongside the advisor’s individual contributions, chapter involvement, leadership, and nominations.
• Local Officer of the Year: Chapter Points are considered alongside the officer’s individual contributions, leadership, involvement, and nominations.
• Local Officer Team of the Year: Chapter Points are considered alongside the team’s overall contributions, leadership, chapter involvement, and nominations.
• Intern of the Year: Chapter Points are considered alongside the intern’s individual contributions, involvement, leadership, and nominations.

Chapter Points are one way Minnesota HOSA recognizes consistent participation throughout the year, but awards involving individual leadership also consider the quality and impact of each nominee’s contributions.

How often are Chapter Points updated?

Chapter Points are updated weekly throughout the year. Updates will stop approximately one month before the State Leadership Conference so final award results can remain a surprise until SLC.

What should we do if our chapter is missing points?

If your chapter believes points are missing, your local officers should notify their Region Representative through the regional group chat. Please include the activity, event, or point opportunity you believe is missing so it can be reviewed.

Do Chapter Points reset each year?

Yes. Chapter Points are earned during the current membership year and reset at the beginning of each new Minnesota HOSA year. However, points earned for ILC and Day at the Zoo apply to the following academic year’s Chapter Points because these events take place after SLC.

Can chapters earn bonus points or lose points?

Yes. Minnesota HOSA may offer bonus point opportunities throughout the year for special initiatives, challenges, or exceptional engagement. Points may also be deducted when appropriate, with the reason for the deduction documented.

Do Chapter Points determine every award automatically?

No. Some awards are determined directly by Chapter Point totals, while leadership awards may also consider nominations, individual contributions, involvement, and overall impact.

How can our chapter improve its point total?

Stay involved throughout the year. Attend Minnesota HOSA conferences and Chapter Connects, complete officer and social media trainings, participate in service projects and fundraisers, maintain an active chapter social media presence, and take advantage of bonus point opportunities when they are announced.
